Grants Provided During 2011
- Grant 1. In May the Foundation provided a grant to the Head and Spinal Cord Injuries Center of the Greenville County Disabilities and Special Needs Board. This grant was awarded to provide equipment and services to people with head and spinal cord injuries who cannot obtain funding through Medicaid, private insurance, or other means.
- Grant 2. Also in May the Foundation approved funding of a trial program for a weekend recreation experience for adults with disabilities at Camp Spearhead. The target participants of this program are Greenville County citizens who have not previously attended Camp Spearhead's 5-day summer camps because of lack of finances or other obstacles. Not only will the camp provide social and recreational opportunities for campers but much-needed respite for their parents.
This camping experience is expected to be expanded to include many other weekends during the fall and spring when the camp is not otherwise being used by persons with disabilities.
If you are a parent or caregiver of an adult with disabilities who might qualify for this program, please contact Randy Murr at Camp Spearhead for information about this weekend camp. Please call Randy at 288-6470, ext. 127 or email him at randy@gcrd.org.
- Grant 3. In February of 2011, the Foundation provided a grant to the Greenville County Disabilities and Special Needs Board to be used toward the purchase of a new van to transport persons with disabilities.
